Discover the promising jobs of the next generation!

The content I will post today is based on a video uploaded in 2021. It’s something that students can think about in their careers, and it would be good to learn about the promising jobs of the next generation from a different perspective than the obvious majors.

Major What major should our students choose?

When you think about promising jobs, and if you search, most of them are in IT/Data/Medical fields. Although it’s promising, realistically, there are many talented people gathering. It’s good if you have a lot of interest and confidence to survive, but they are not the only promising jobs.

Let’s start by explaining what major is promising from a different perspective.

The hegemony war of the United States As we start explaining from a new perspective, what position should we have globally?

Let’s take a look at this first. To know our position, we need to know the history of the United States. The history of the United States in the 1900s is in line with how the United States has walked to keep its hegemony.

From the 1930s to the 1990s in the United States, history can be summarized in three events.

• Great Depression

• World War II

• Cold War

At first glance, it seems that all countries in the world have reached the current economic level through multilateral free trade, but in fact, it’s the opposite. Except for the New Deal policy period of President Roosevelt after the Great Depression, it was actually a very closed and closed diplomacy.

How did the United States maintain its Hegemony?

In short, during the Cold War, it shook the Soviet Union with oil prices and eventually collapsed the Soviet Union with the weapon of ideology. Similarly, when it surged to second place in the economy in the 1980s, it called West Germany, France, and the UK to the United States and made them sign to appreciate their currency in the ‘Plaza Accord’. In the end, the United States maintained its hegemony by disabling the economies of other countries that threatened the United States.

Post Cold War era After the Cold War regime, from the 1990s to the present, it is no exaggeration to say that it was actually the United States solo. Recently, with the rise of China, the hegemony of the United States has been threatened, and Trump is responding to the threat of China using intellectual property rights/exchange rates/ideology.

Joe Biden, who was elected as the 46th president,

• multilateralism

• Technology Intellectual Property Rights

• Buy American

He is trying to keep the hegemony of the United States through these.

Xi Jinping, the president of China, also

• Surpass the United States within 10 years

• Technological self-reliance

• Domestic-oriented dual circulation strategy

He is putting forward these three strategies. In the end, the United States and China, while maintaining the big frame of protectionist trade, are in a new war while competing enough to be called a new Cold War when viewed comprehensively. In this reality, one common keyword is renewable energy.

In summary,

• Protectionist trade

• Hegemony war + environment

• Currency war

In an era where the world is focused on the environment, the field directly related to the environment is ultimately Agriculture.

The problem that will arise in the era when protectionist trade leads the world is the “food war”. In the next 20-30 years, a visible food war is expected. The image above shows countries that are likely to have problems with food self-sufficiency in the future. The darker the blue, the more serious it is, and the yellow and red are countries that are already suffering from famine. Grain Self-Sufficiency is a measure of the proportion of food that can be supplied to its citizens from domestic production when a country is thought to be closed.

According to a survey in the early 2000s, Korea is 25%. This means that 75 out of 100 people could suffer from famine. Even looking at recent data, it has fallen further to 22.5%. The situation is even more daunting as the proportion of domestic arable land is decreasing.

Agriculture Based on the above, the promising major I choose is Agriculture! Recently, Agriculture is combined with Technology and Economics, and I think it has more prospects. Then, how should we strategize and study for this major?

• Option 1

First, enroll in the Agriculture department at a Top Tier prestigious university (Cornell, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Texas A&M, UIUC, Michigan State Univ. Purdue, U of Wisconsin, U of Florida, Washington State Univ.).

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, go to a graduate school where there is a professor who is researching your interest to obtain a master’s degree.

• Option 2

If it is realistically difficult to go to a top tier, choose a school specialized in Agriculture to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Graduate school is the same as Option 1, go to a place where there is a professor in the field of interest. Of course, if you obtain a doctoral degree and become an agricultural specialist, it can be a very good choice.

Today, I have prepared a time to recommend and look at the promising major, Agriculture, from an unconventional perspective. I hope this post was helpful and I will finish today’s post.

We, at A-One Institute, are guiding students who will major in various fields. If you inquire, we will let you know in detail. Thank you.
